The Alarm clock rings! I roll over my sheets, it shows 6:00 AM.
It is Monday morning......
This is the single most dreaded moment of my life that I wish never occured. I can relate to millions of people over the world, who wish this moment never arrived. I guess this is a sign of lack of motivation.
Motivation is the act of doing somthing willingly. There are several factors that can lead to motivating someone. According to Ken Shan and Prof. Param Shah, "Motivation is a general term applied to the entire class of drivers, desires, needs, wishes and similar forces".
The following motivational concepts were identified by Ken Shan and Prof. Param Shah;
(1) Achievement Motivation: An individuals drive to pursue and attain goals
(2) Affiliation Motivation: The drive to relate to people on a social basis
(3) Competence Motivation: The drive to be good at somthing. To perform highly at work.
(4) Power Motivation: The drive to influence people and change situations if necessary.
(5) Attitude Motivation: It is, how people think and feel about themselves.
(6) Incentive Motivation: It is when an individual is rewarded for accomplishing a task.
(7) Fear Motivation: It is to make an individual accomplish a task on the basis of fear.
I currently follow the Incentive Motivation concept at work. My team lead always makes promises about giving me a raise or a promotion if I accomplish a task successfully. But, it is like chasing the carrot theory. It is a motivation as long as I feel like I can go with the program, but once I lose interest, the motivation dies with it.
